Welcome to the Landran Glossary of Terms. Whether you are a procurement professional, architect, or homeowner, this reference covers the essential terminology across our entire product range — and links each category to the actual products we supply. Each term includes a clear definition and practical context so you can make informed decisions with confidence.
1. Aluminum Materials & Profiles
Core aluminum alloys, extrusion profiles, surface finishes and color systems used across every Landran door, gate and structure.
Alloy 6063
The primary aluminum alloy for architectural extrusions, prized for excellent extrudability, smooth surface finish, and corrosion resistance. Landran uses 6063-T5/T6 for all door and window profiles.
Alloy 6061
Higher-strength aluminum alloy used for structural components and heavy-load applications where extra rigidity is required, such as large-span door frames.
Temper T5 / T6
Heat-treatment designations: T5 (artificially aged after extrusion, standard for profiles) and T6 (solution heat-treated + aged, 15–25% stronger for demanding loads).
Extrusion
A manufacturing process where heated aluminum billets are forced through a shaped die to create continuous profiles with precise cross-sections — the foundation of all Landran door frames.
Profile Depth
The front-to-back dimension of an aluminum extrusion. Deeper profiles (70–90 mm) allow thicker thermal breaks and better insulation.
Wall Thickness
The thickness of the aluminum profile walls. Landran's exterior doors use ≥1.8 mm wall thickness as per international building standards.
Thermal Break (PA66)
A polyamide 6.6 insulating strip inserted between the interior and exterior aluminum profiles, blocking heat transfer and preventing condensation.
Multi-Chamber Profile
An extrusion design with multiple internal air cavities that enhance thermal insulation and acoustic performance by trapping dead air.
Powder Coating
An electrostatic dry-spray finishing process where powder is baked onto the aluminum at ~200°C, creating a durable, scratch-resistant surface in any RAL color.
Heat Transfer Printing
A decorative process that transfers wood-grain or metallic patterns onto pre-coated aluminum surfaces, giving doors a natural timber look with aluminum durability.
Anodizing
An electrochemical process that thickens the natural oxide layer on aluminum, producing a hard, corrosion-resistant, and color-stable surface finish.
RAL Color Code
The international standard color-matching system. Landran offers 50+ RAL colors including popular shades like RAL 7016 (Anthracite Grey) and RAL 9016 (Traffic White).
RoHS Compliant
Certification that the coating and finishing materials meet EU restrictions on hazardous substances — standard across all Landran manufacturing processes.
2. Entry Doors & Aluminum Doors
Door anatomy, opening styles, glass configurations and performance ratings for single, double and pivot entry doors.
Door Leaf / Sash
The moving panel of a door that opens and closes. In double-door configurations, each panel is a separate leaf.
Door Frame / Jamb
The fixed outer structure anchored to the wall opening. The jamb refers specifically to the vertical side members that carry hinges and lock strikes.
Threshold / Sill
The bottom horizontal member that bridges the door opening and floor, managing water drainage and providing a weather seal.
Head
The top horizontal member of a door frame, spanning between the two jambs to complete the structural perimeter.
Sidelight
A tall narrow fixed glass panel installed beside a door, allowing natural light while maintaining security.
Transom / Fanlight
A fixed window panel installed above the door, often arched or rectangular, bringing additional daylight into the entryway.
In-Swing / Out-Swing
Describes the door opening direction: in-swing opens inward (standard for residential), out-swing opens outward (common in commercial).
Insulated Glass Unit (IGU)
A sealed assembly of two or more glass panes separated by a spacer and filled with argon gas, providing thermal and acoustic insulation.
Laminated Glass
Safety glass with a PVB interlayer that holds the glass together when broken — offers enhanced security and sound reduction.
Tempered Glass
Heat-treated glass that is 4–5 times stronger than standard glass. When broken, it shatters into small blunt particles for safety.
Low-E Coating
A microscopically thin metallic coating applied to glass that reflects infrared heat while admitting visible light.
U-Value
Thermal transmittance coefficient measured in W/m²K. Lower values mean better insulation. Landran doors achieve U-values as low as 1.4 W/m²K.
STC Rating
Sound Transmission Class — a measure of how well a door reduces airborne sound. Landran's filled-core doors achieve STC 35–40+.
Weatherstripping / Gasket
Flexible EPDM or silicone seals compressed between the door leaf and frame to block air, water, dust, and noise.
Glazing Bead
The removable trim profile that secures the glass unit within the sash. It can be unclipped for glass replacement without removing the door.
3. Armored & Security Doors
High-security door construction, locking mechanisms, anti-intrusion hardware and fire resistance ratings.
Armored Door
A high-security door constructed with two steel plates and internal reinforcements, mounted on a one-piece steel frame.
Multi-Point Lock
A locking mechanism that engages bolts at multiple points along the door edge with a single turn of the handle — 3, 5, or 7 points.
Deadbolt
A lock bolt that extends directly into the frame without spring action, providing resistance against forced entry.
Mortise Lock
A lock mechanism that fits into a recessed cavity (mortise) cut into the door edge, offering superior strength.
Anti-Pick Cylinder
A lock cylinder with security pins designed to prevent lock-picking and bump-key attacks.
Anti-Drill Plate
A hardened steel plate protecting the lock cylinder area from drill attacks.
Security Hinge
Heavy-duty hinges with concealed pins that prevent the door from being lifted off its hinges.
Burglar Resistance Grade
EN 1627 classification RC 1 to 6. Landran armored doors meet RC 2–4, tested against physical attack.
Counterframe
A steel pre-frame embedded in the wall opening, providing the rigid anchor point for the armored door frame.
Fire Rating (EI)
Fire resistance in minutes — EI30, EI60, EI90 indicate how long a door withstands fire.
Smart Lock Integration
Compatibility with fingerprint, keypad, app, or biometric readers for keyless entry.
4. Villa Gates & Courtyard Doors
Gate panel types, drive and pedestrian gates, automation systems and outdoor finishing for villa courtyards.
Double-Leaf Gate
A pair of gate panels hinged on each side and meeting in the center, common for villa entryways.
Sliding Gate
A gate that opens horizontally along a track, ideal for properties with limited swing space.
Cantilever Gate
A trackless sliding gate supported by a cantilever mechanism on posts, offering a clean threshold.
Automatic Gate Operator
A motorized mechanism that opens and closes gates via remote control, sensor, or smartphone.
Picket / Baluster
Vertical bars spaced along a gate or fence panel for enclosure and decorative rhythm.
Scroll / Finial
Ornamental accessories — scrolls are curved elements, finials are decorative top caps.
Driveway Gate
A wide gate (3–6 m) for vehicle access, often paired with automatic operators.
Pedestrian Gate
A smaller walk-through gate within or beside the main driveway gate.
Post / Pillar
Structural vertical supports that anchor the gate. Landran offers posts with decorative caps.
Wrought Iron Style
Aesthetic treatment replicating traditional wrought iron using rust-proof aluminum castings.
Electrostatic Spray (Outdoor)
UV-stabilized powder coating for exterior gates, ensuring 10+ year color retention.
Remote Access Control
Entry via RF remote, keypad, app, or intercom — standard on Landran automated gates.

Railing & Balustrade Systems
Balustrade
A complete railing system: handrail, balusters or infill panels, bottom rail, and posts.
Handrail / Top Rail
The top horizontal member designed to be gripped for support.
Bottom Rail
The lower horizontal member connecting balusters or glass panels to the structure.
Baluster
Vertical infill member, spaced ≤100 mm apart per the 4-inch sphere safety rule.
Newel Post
A prominent structural post at ends or turns of a railing, supporting the handrail.
Glass Railing (Frameless)
A railing using tempered laminated glass panels secured with spigots — no vertical balusters.
Spigot / Glass Clamp
Stainless steel fittings clamping the glass bottom edge and anchoring to the floor.
Concealed / Top-Mount / Side-Mount
Installation methods: channel in slab, on slab surface, or on slab face.
Post Cap / Finial
Decorative covers for post tops — flat, ball, or ornamental styles.
4-Inch Sphere Rule
Safety regulation: all railing gaps < 100 mm to prevent child head entrapment.
Fences & Privacy Screens
Fence Panel
A factory-assembled aluminum panel section used to build perimeter fences, combining extruded profiles with infill bars, slats or mesh. Landran's WQ-041 series shows how panels integrate with gate systems for full villa enclosure.
Privacy Fence / Screening
Dense or slatted panels that block direct sight lines while allowing airflow. Horizontal-slat aluminum fences are a popular modern choice for gardens and terraces.
Horizontal Slat Fence
A contemporary fence design with aluminum slats mounted horizontally, offering clean lines, privacy control and high durability against weather.
Post-and-Panel System
A modular fence construction of fixed posts with pre-fabricated panels inserted between them, enabling fast installation and easy future panel replacement.
Wind Load Rating
The maximum wind pressure a fence, gate or pergola is engineered to withstand, expressed in kPa or m/s. Structural profiles and fixing spacing are designed around this value.
Anti-Corrosion Finish
A protective coating system (powder coating, anodizing or electrostatic spray) that shields outdoor aluminum from salt air, rain and UV exposure, extending service life.
Pergolas & Outdoor Structures
Pergola
A freestanding or attached outdoor aluminum structure with an open or louvered roof, providing shade and a defined living area. Landran's Y-001 pergola is customized to villa garden dimensions.
Louvered Pergola
A pergola with adjustable aluminum louvers that rotate to control sunlight, airflow and rain protection, often motorized with remote control.
Retractable Canopy Pergola
A pergola integrating a retractable fabric or louver canopy that slides open or closed according to weather and preference.
Rafter / Beam
The horizontal structural members spanning between pergola posts that support the roof slats or louvers. Deeper beams allow integrated lighting and drainage channels.
Corner Post / Column
The vertical support posts located at the pergola corners, typically extruded aluminum profiles sized for the roof load and wind exposure.
Integrated Lighting
LED lighting channels built into pergola rafters or beams, creating ambient evening illumination for outdoor dining and entertaining areas.
Stair Handrail Components
Staircase / Stairway
Steps connecting floor levels, including treads, risers, and stringers.
Handrail Bracket
A metal bracket securing the handrail to the wall alongside the stair.
Wall Return
Handrail portion curving into the wall at the end for safe termination.
Volute / Spiral
A decorative spiral handrail fitting at the bottom of a staircase.
Gooseneck
A fitting rising vertically at a landing to transition between rail slopes.
Tread / Riser
Tread: horizontal stepping surface. Riser: vertical face between treads.
Stringer / Carriage
Inclined structural member supporting the treads and risers along the stair sides.
Landing
Flat platform between flights for resting and direction change.
Nosing
Projecting front edge of a tread, often rounded for safety.
Flange / Base Plate
Flat metal plate at the base of a post, bolted to the floor.
Easing / Offset
Curved fitting for smooth handrail direction or height transitions.
ADA Compliance
Accessibility standards: handrail 34–38 in height, continuous gripping surface.

Handles, locks, hinges, closers, thresholds and sealing systems that complete every Landran door — matching our Door Hardware & Accessories product series.
Door Handle / Lever Set
The operating handle with backplate used to open and close a door. Landran offers modern aluminum lever handles such as the LS-032 model, available in multiple RAL finishes.
Smart Lock
A digital locking device supporting fingerprint, PIN, card or app control. Landran's Hl-C15 smart lock integrates with aluminum doors for keyless entry.
Concealed Door Closer
A hydraulic closing device installed inside the door frame (e.g. Landran's Yc-001), controlling closing speed and damping while keeping the door face clean.
Pivot Hinge
A heavy-duty hinge system for pivot doors (e.g. Landran's H-001), distributing door weight along the top and bottom pivots for smooth rotation.
Butt Hinge
A standard two-leaf hinge mounted on the door edge and frame, used for single and double swing doors with concealed or exposed screws.
Automatic Sweep Strip
A bottom-door seal (e.g. Landran's SC-001) that automatically drops when the door closes and lifts when it opens, blocking drafts, dust and sound.
Sealing Strip / Weatherstrip
Flexible EPDM or silicone profiles fitted into door grooves (e.g. Landran's mf-003, T85/T93/D100) to seal gaps against air, water and noise.
Adjustable Threshold
A door bottom profile (e.g. Landran's mk-001) that bridges the gap between door and floor, often height-adjustable to match finished flooring.
Strike Plate
The metal plate mounted on the door frame that receives the latch or deadbolt, reinforcing the locking point against forced entry.
Escutcheon / Rose
A decorative plate surrounding the key cylinder or handle base, protecting the door surface and giving a finished appearance.
Door Stop
A floor- or wall-mounted fixture that limits the door swing angle, protecting the wall, frame and hardware from impact.
Surface Bolt / Barrel Bolt
A manually operated locking rod mounted on the door face, commonly used on double-leaf doors to secure the inactive leaf.
Finger Pull
A recessed or surface-mounted pull handle for pivot, sliding and glass doors, offering a clean grip without a full lever.
Lock Cylinder / Mortise Cylinder
The key-operated core of a mortise lock, graded by security level; anti-pick and anti-drill cylinders provide higher burglary resistance.
Anti-Snap / Security Cylinder
A reinforced cylinder designed to resist lock snapping and bumping attacks, recommended for entrance doors and villa gates.
